Description :

Norbornene can be conjugated through amide bonds to linear PEG, multi-arm branched PEG such as 4-arm and 8-arm. PEG-Norbornene is used to perform thiol-ene reaction to prepare hydrogels and other biocompatible materials. Photopolymerization is one that permits facile control over polymerization kinetics because the initiation and termination of crosslinking reaction can be precisely controlled by light irradiation. These hydrogels are cross-linked through light mediated orthogonal reactions between multi-functional norbornene-modified macromers (e.g., poly(ethylene glycol), hyaluronic acid, gelatin) and sulfhydryl-containing linkers (e.g., dithiothreitol, PEG-dithiol, bis-cysteine peptides, 4-arm PEG-SH and 8-arm PEG-thiol) using low concentration of photoinitiator.
